College in the Americas

Entry#1:
3 things to ponder upon:

1. Does college really teach us anything? Be honest.
2. College is not for everyone, so why is society pressuring the mass to ATTEND UNIVERSITY?
3. College has become a necessity, yet it's incredibly EXPENSIVE. Those who can afford private tutoring, the fees for the applications, the tests, and etc...have an advantage over the "have nots"- clearly that's not fair.

...will express my thoughts later in the week. I best be getting back to studying!

  1. First off, I would like to say welcome! Secondly I want to comment on your post. Your questions were pretty thought provoking.

    1. I have only been at college for a month and I have learned quite a bit. About what you may ask? I have learned many things in the classroom, yes, but I have learned about what kind of person I am and the different people in the world. There is more out there than just your neighborhood.

    2. Yes, college is not for everyone. It is a fact that most, "respectable," jobs go to college graduates with top marks. College is used as a sort of bar, by which to judge people equally. I use the term equally loosely, due to the opinions you expressed in question 3.

    3. Yes, I agree that it is a shame, and the system is always there to work against the economically challenged. One could raise their hand waving a copy of the SAT, saying that it provides an equal opportunity for all students to be judged. Alas the system still works against them. The wealthy are buying their way into universities differently. Through SAT tutors and better schooling. It is a system that is not perfect. In Europe some higher education is subsidized by the government, and that is still not a perfect system. Until it can be resolved I will sip on my ramen and do my best to make my dollar worth every penny!
